Character appearance:
Barengar is quite tall at around 6 feet 2, but very well built and muscular especially in his upper body. He is probably the youngest of the teachers at only 24 and is quite handsome and usually has a five o’clock shadow, but has a few wounds from his previous career as a professional Quidditch player for Germany, including the one on his right arm which cut his quidditch playing career short. He has medium length (for a guy) dark brown hair (but he does change it’s colour on a whim) and smoky green eyes. He is generally well presented, but not ultra smart. He wears flying robes most of the time while he is teaching or refereeing quidditch games, but the rest of the time he is quite casual.

Character history:

He was born on February 6th 1953 in Brandenburg to Wilhelm and Kristina Bismark, his father was a prestigious wizard and his mother was equally prestigious in the Muggle world. He discovered he was a wizard when he was 8, when he pointed at a curtain angrily and it burst into flames. His father proceeded to use magic to extinguish the flames and then explained the principles of magic to him. His parents didn’t tell him about magic until this point, in case that he didn’t have magical talent, so he could live a relatively normal Muggle life. At 11, he went to the German national wizarding school, Geheimnistein, which was renowned for it’s ability in creating world-class quidditch players. He excelled at quidditch as a Beater and was selected for Germany’s youth teams many times before leaving school. Upon leaving school, despite being an unremarkable wizard, apart from with spells involving fire, he had a job guaranteed and was quickly signed by Berlin Fire, Germany’s best domestic side. He was immediately added to the German national side and was set for an amazing career until, in the first match of this year’s season for Germany, he broke his arm playing against Bulgaria, but carried on playing despite his injury, only to further injure himself on the same arm but in the same move managed to hit the opposition seeker in the head with the bludger, allowing Germany to win, but also ruining his career. He has spent the remaining time in hospital considering his options and decided that he would apply to Hogwarts instead of Geheimnistein, because his former school had a new headmaster known for his disdain for halfbloods and he knew he wouldn’t feel comfortable working there. He still is one of the most agile flyers around despite the injury that prevents him playing. He also has a talent for fire related spells. He is currently married to a young German woman called Eva, who he met in a post game team party four years ago. She moved to Hogsmeade when Barengar got the job here, but he still lives in school but visits her regularly.

Personality:
Despite being officially house-less, he identifies best with Gryffindor. He has a nearly unbreakable nerve and isn’t scared or disgusted by much, this makes him a little reckless and he doesn’t like admitting defeat despite being a good loser and winner. He is generally outgoing and friendly, enthusiastic about most things, but especially quidditch. However, he is very susceptible to make blatant faux pas, most of which are unintended, but can lead to offence. He has only ever received problems in his life from purists and resents them deeply for it, but apart from that and the collapse of his promising career, he has had and still does have quite a good life and enjoys life to the best of his ability, and if anyone gets in the way of that, he holds it against them, but tends to drop grudges after a while. As a teacher, he is quite relaxed with the rules, not so much so as Delame, but he was always a bit mischievous as a student so can relate quite easily with them.
